How is a Country doing?
As I have been lately, if you are curious about how a country is doing on various — demographic, social, economic, political — fronts, this post might be relevant.
Below are some websites where, for every country, you will find a set of charts on a set of indicators from official sources. Let’s pick Armenia as the example.
Data Commons
datacommons.org, which I help build, presents charts about countries from multiple official sources. There is a lot more there than country charts, but is a different post.
World Bank
World Bank includes a subset of their World Development Indicator stats, with ability to add more.
There is a non-graphical version here.
UN
The United Nations organization collects and disseminates global stat information on countries through multiple programs.
UNData
There are no charts in this profile page, but it a set of indicators in tabular form.
Sustainable Development Goals
SDG Country Profile is a nice page with a long list of charts and highlighted stats on various development indicators.
Human Development Reports
In this website, one has click open the categories to see the charts though.
OECD
This website primarily focuses onthe OECD countries. So, for this, we’ll pick Turkey as the example.
OECD Data
There are non-graphical tables here.
Better Life Index
CIA World Factbook
CIA Factbook pages on countries do not have charts, but they have a variety of very interesting information, both descriptive and statistical.
Health — IHME
IHME is focussed on global health stats. Their profile page includes some very interesting stats and forecasts on health spending, risk factors, causes of death, etc.
The list of per-country datasets is here.
Health — WHO GHO Profile
WHO’s Global Health Observatory profile of countries has a less than impressively small collection of charts.
Religion — Global Religious Futures (Pew Research)
Pew Research’s globalreligiousfutures.org is the only place where I found stats by religion. I also learnt of a Social Hostilities Index (SHI) that India ranks the worst on.
